Members and executives of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) in the eastern region in June, 2021 awarded the District Medical Officer (DMO) Kenema District Eastern Sierra Leone Dr. Donald Grant for his support and contribution towards the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) East office building project and the fight against Corona in Kenema District and the eastern region by extension. The ceremony took place at his Government Hospital office in Kenema.
Presenting the award to Dr. Donald Grant, the Regional Chairperson of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) East Victoria Vandy Bernard said the District Health Management Team (DHMT) Kenema District through Dr. Donald Grant has been very cooperative with the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) East which is the main reason they decided to award him in recognition of his hard work.
The Regional Chairperson of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) East Victoria Vandy Bernard encouraged people while they are alive to emulate the good work of Dr. Donald Grant.
In his statement, the Regional Vice Chairman of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) East Ibrahim K. Musa (I.K Musa) said he came to know Dr. Grant when President Bio announced the outbreak of Coronavirus in Sierra Leone, adding that Dr. Grant invited all stakeholders including journalists to a planning meeting on how to prepare ahead of the Coronavirus in Kenema wherein a task force was formed with different stakeholders in various pillars. According to the SLAJ Chairman East, the DMO of Kenema District has been very hardworking and productive in the fight against Corona in Kenema District, adding that Dr. Grant has been very instrumental in the development of Journalists and Journalism in the Eastern Region and Kenema and called on other stakeholders within the district to support Journalists and Journalism in the region and not to shy away from the media.
Receiving the award, the District Medical Officer (DMO) of Kenema District Dr. Donald Grant thanked the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) East for awarding him and promised the executives and members of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) East of his continuous support and contribution to the association. “Journalists are not people we should shy away from because they are partners in development and I want to encourage all civil servants and other stakeholders to always open their doors to Journalists and I vow to always support the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists – East,” Dr. Grant noted.
