The Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI), in collaboration with The Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, is set to introduce a new educational booklet designed to enhance Sierra Leoneans’ understanding of their constitutional rights.
A focus group discussion is being conducted today with various civil society organizations across Sierra Leone to gather input and refine the booklet. This session aims to ensure that the resource is both accessible and pertinent to its intended audience.
The forthcoming booklet will provide a thorough overview of Sierra Leone’s Constitution, with a special emphasis on Chapter 3, which deals with “The Recognition and Protection of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms.” It will detail how these constitutional rights serve to protect individuals and communities and ensure accountability among government and public institutions.
By incorporating feedback from local organizations, CHRDI and its partners hope to create a valuable tool that will empower Sierra Leoneans by clearly communicating their rights and the mechanisms available for their protection.
