The Blue Sharks of Cape Verde defeated Sierra Leone homebased side 2-1 on Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough to take them into the African Nations Championship next stage.
The home-based Blue Sharks failed to qualify owing to their 2-0 first-leg defeat.
Sierra Leon has progressed to the final phase of the African Nations Championship qualifiers after winning 3-2 on aggregate on both legs. Sierra Leone will now face the Eagles of Mali on the weekend of 26, 27and 28th August, 2022 in the first leg whiles the reversed fixture will be played on the 2, 3 and 4th September, 2022.
Sierra Leone will host the first leg before making the trip to Bamako, Mali for the second leg on the dates mentioned above.
The winner of that ties progress to the final tournament to be hosted in January 2023 in Algeria.
It could be recalled that the Team Manager of the homebased side, Alhaji Umar Bah pledged the sum of Ten Thousand United States Dollars if the lad eliminated the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde. Asked whether the boys will receive the said amount; Mr. Bah replied; “Why not? He asked. “This is a motivational package and I will continue this venture to achieve our goal for Algeria African Nations Championship 2023”.
