Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA), presidential aspirants Augustine Sorie-Sengbe Marrah and Wara Serry-Kamal have jointly announced the convening of an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) through a press release issued today.

The announcement, made on behalf of the SLBA membership, outlines the details of the EGM scheduled pursuant to section 187(4) of the Companies Act 2009 (as amended). The meeting is set to take place on Wednesday, 10th July 2024, commencing at 2 PM at the New Brookfields Hotel, located on Jomo Kenyatta Road, Freetown.

The press release further clarifies that the decision to convene the EGM was prompted by a formal requisition submitted on 27th May 2024, in accordance with Section 187(2) of the Companies Act. This requisition, signed by more than the required number of SLBA members, called for the discussion of specific matters crucial to the association as outlined in their Requisition Notice. Despite the stipulated 21-day period having elapsed without the Directors of the SLBA convening the meeting, the members have invoked their rights under Section 187(4) to proceed independently.

The purpose of the EGM, as stated in the release, is to deliberate on key issues pertinent to the SLBA and its stakeholders. Detailed notice of the meeting, including the agenda and relevant information, will be disseminated shortly to all members. The release emphasizes the importance of active participation by all members to ensure collective input towards advancing good governance and the welfare of the SLBA.

In closing, the aspirants expressed their commitment to upholding the values and principles integral to the legal profession, advocating for transparency, accountability, and unity within the SLBA.
