During the fifth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone, the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) under the watch of President Bio handpicked Dr. Abass Bundu as Speaker of Parliament, in an unfortunate event that unfolded right at the house of solace for Parliamentarians, where APC MPs were beaten, tortured and dragged out of Parliament building.
Following the recent resignation of Dr. Abass Bundu as Speaker of Parliament, the Parliament of Sierra Leone is at a risk of again violating Section 159 – 1 of the 1991 Constitution by imposing a Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
Hon. Marah, a former Member of Parliament representing the All Peoples Congress Party from Falaba District has raised concerns about this potential violation of the constitution on his Facebook page. He argues that the would-be Speaker and Deputy Speaker should resign to Parliament, rather than resigning to the President or his office.
