Breaking: Government Declares March 9 Public Holiday to Observe International Women’s Day

The Government of Sierra Leone has announced that Monday, 9 March 2026, will be observed as a public holiday across the country in recognition of International Women’s Day.

In a public notice issued to the general public, the government stated that International Women’s Day will fall on Sunday, 8 March 2026. As a result, the following day, Monday, 9 March, has been officially declared a nationwide public holiday.

The declaration allows citizens to commemorate the global observance dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while also highlighting the ongoing efforts to advance gender equality.

Members of the public are encouraged to use the day to participate in activities and reflections that recognize the contributions of women to national development and community progress.
