BRAC FEEDS 300 ADOLESCENT GIRLS IN BO DISTRICT

Three Hundred Adolescent girls in BRAC Sierra Leone’s 10 operational communities in Bo District have benefited from a food Basket and Hygiene Kits donation.

The official launch of the Food Basket and Hygiene Kits which took place at the J&E Resort in Bo attracted major Stakeholders from Ministries of Education, Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs and the Bo District Health Management Team.

Making a statement, Programme Manager, Youth Empowerment and Education, BRAC Sierra Leone,Dr. Regena Kain overemphasized the relevance of the Empowerment and livelihood for adolescent girls project in 10 communities in Bo District adding that during their Check- in -call activities to know about the welfare of club members under their direct mentorship at the peak of the Corona Pandemic in the country, concerns about food challenges were rife and prominently featured.

Being a responsible and responsive organisation that seeks and cares for the welfare of their targeted beneficiaries she went on, management of BRAC deemed it expedient to provide 300 bags of 50 kilo rice and some food condiments Including sanitary pads, deodorants and kegs of soap for onward distribution to each of the 300 beneficiaries respectively.

In addition,Dr. Regena Kain on behalf of BRAC Sierra Leone donated 10 COVID 19 Wash hand  Stations to be stationed in ten of their operational areas in Bo District.

The aim of this gesture she stressed is to ensure that the mentored girls end up becoming admired role models in society.

She urged all the beneficiaries to comport themselves and remain focused in their academic pursuits.

Two of the beneficiaries, Hawanatu Kemoh,a JSS 1 pupil of the St.Theresa  Junior Secondary School along Sewa road in Bo aged 12, and Mariama Bona of Towama Community expressed profound thanks and appreciation to BRAC Sierra Leone for their magnanimity especially so when the donation was least expected.

They said eking a decent living during this COVID 19 period has been extremely difficult for their parents and furthered disclosed the timeliness of the donation.

Parents of the beneficiaries in attendance,Isatu Sesay and Albert Musa Charles,Town Chief,Nduvuibu Section in Bo lauded the gesture and urged the management to do more. They disclosed the importance of the mentorship which accordingly has exposed their daughters to the art of public speaking.

Official launch of the Food Basket and Hygiene Kits for 300 Adolescent Girls in Bo District was done by Madam Martha Idriss Feika, Gender Officer, Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs in Bo.

BRAC is a Non-Governmental Organization that was founded 49 years ago in Bangladesh and started operations in Sierra Leone in 2008. They have over the past years implemented a lot of programmes in many sectors ranging from Health, Emergency Response preparedness, youth empowerment and gender, agricultural projects and Microfinance with them being the largest micro finance organization in Sierra Leone with over 69,000 beneficiaries.
