Section Chiefs and community stakeholders of Syria, Kimbia Section in the Sanda Loko Chiefdom in Karene District gathered on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, to express their enthusiasm over the anticipated windfall from Ashkenazi Minerals SL Limited’s proposed mining venture.
Having recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with stakeholders of the prospective mining site, Ashkenazi Minerals SL has pledged a comprehensive development package for the region.
They assured stakeholders and residents that, pending government approval, they would not only pay surface rent and taxes but also uphold their Corporate Social Responsibility by providing essential social infrastructure.
This includes the construction of schools, mosques, churches, and roads, as well as offering scholarship opportunities to children, aligning with the government’s free quality education initiative.Abdulai Conteh, speaking on behalf of the landowners, extended a warm welcome to the Ashkenazi Minerals SL team, expressing gratitude for their investment in the community.
He emphasized the peaceful nature of Syria and assured the company of their commitment to ensuring safety and protection throughout the project’s duration. Conteh also stressed the importance of returning the land to its rightful owners after mining activities conclude.Lamrana Bangura, representing the Section Chiefs, echoed Conteh’s sentiments, welcoming the Ashkenazi Mining Company and pledging unwavering support for their endeavors in Karene District.
He specifically commended the company’s Director, John Sorie Kamara, for his consistent support and contributions to the community.In turn, the Director of Ashkenazi Minerals SL Company, John Sorie Kamara, shared his extensive experience in the mining sector, spanning over nineteen years. He explained the company’s interest in investing in the area and highlighted their commitment to conducting responsible mining operations that benefit both the government and people of Sierra Leone.
Artem Volchenko, speaking on behalf of the investors, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and expressed confidence in the mutually beneficial partnership. He assured the community of continued support for developmental initiatives, including capacity building and technological advancement in mining activities.
Dr. Berkalieva Meruert, the Chief Executive Director of Ashkenazi Minerals SL Mining Company, lauded the community’s hospitality and pledged to support their development efforts. She outlined plans to enhance infrastructure, provide educational opportunities, and contribute to the overall advancement of the region.
The engagement concluded with traditional dances and festivities, with youth, women, and children eagerly anticipating the transformation promised by the upcoming mining venture.
