The All Peoples Congress (APC) Party has announced the suspension of its participation in the Tripartite Committee due to an ongoing stalemate with representatives of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Government. This deadlock, which has persisted for a week, revolves around the refusal of SLPP representatives to engage in discussions with APC counterparts regarding the verification of election results announced by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL).

In a statement issued today, the APC highlighted its commitment to the Terms of Reference and the signed Agreement on National Unity, emphasizing its readiness to participate constructively in the Tripartite Committee. The Committee, tasked with reviewing the outcome of the June 24th, 2023 elections, has encountered obstacles as the ECSL has withheld crucial data, including disaggregated votes by polling station.

The APC recalled its initial rejection of the election results followed by participation in internationally mediated cross-party dialogues aimed at fostering peace and national cohesion. Despite these efforts, the APC accuses the SLPP Government of failing to fulfill promises made during the dialogue, thereby obstructing the Committee’s work.

Citing legal mandates under the Public Elections Act, 2022, and the Right to Access Information Act, 2013, the APC underscored the obligation for transparency and accountability in electoral processes. Section 92 of the Public Elections Act specifies the release of detailed polling station results, information pivotal for the Tripartite Committee’s review.

In light of the SLPP’s reluctance to facilitate further dialogue and provide essential documentation, the APC has regrettably decided to suspend its participation in the Tripartite Committee. The party expressed sympathy for the difficulties arising from contested election outcomes and deteriorating living conditions, urging calm among its supporters and the public.

The APC reiterated its commitment to democratic norms and pledged to continue advocating for electoral reforms and justice. It appealed for support from development partners in ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process in Sierra Leone.

The party promised to monitor developments closely and keep the public informed as the situation unfolds, emphasizing its determination to uphold democratic principles and safeguard the rights of Sierra Leonean voters.

For further updates, the APC encouraged the public and development partners to remain engaged and supportive during this challenging period.
