Hon. Salieu Osman Sesay, APC MP for Bombali District, has criticized Sierra Leone’s economic policies, calling them a “Kush economy” during the Appropriation Act 2025 debate on November 21, 2024.

He described the current policies as a “slow-acting poison” harming the nation’s development, urging the government to focus on practical solutions rather than “empty promises.”

Sesay highlighted the underfunding of key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), particularly the Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute (SLARI) and the Seed Fertilizer Agency, which are vital for food security.

He called for a reallocation of resources to support these sectors. He also condemned the removal of the social tariff by the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), which now charges all consumers equally, exacerbating financial strain on citizens.

On infrastructure, he expressed disappointment over the lack of progress in road development in the Northern Province, particularly the road links to Makeni’s regional referral hospital.

Sesay criticized the inadequate budget allocation for agriculture, condemning reliance on unpredictable donor funding, and compared the current administration unfavorably to its predecessor, citing rising inflation and stagnant living standards.

He called for a balanced approach to economic management that prioritizes key sectors and the needs of the people.
