Opposition MP Hon. Hawa Conteh, representing Koindugu District, criticized the “Feed Salone” project, calling it a “white elephant” during a press briefing on 6th November 2024.

The Feed Salone project is a white elephant,” Hon. Conteh stated. “For almost a year, there has been no meaningful development that proves its existence or impact on the ground. It’s all talk and no action.”

She expressed frustration over the lack of progress, noting that after almost a year, the project remains ineffective and disconnected from the needs of the people.

She urged President Bio to provide practical support to farming families with tools, inputs, and financial assistance rather than relying on empty promises.

Hon. Conteh emphasized the importance of agriculture and food security for the nation’s survival, warning that the failure of the project would severely impact the well-being of Sierra Leoneans.

She highlighted issues such as poor road infrastructure, particularly the Tomagbom road, as significant barriers to agricultural success.

Additionally, Hon. Conteh referenced a recent World Health Organization (WHO) report that highlighted a sharp increase in the price of imported rice due to a 10% tax imposed by the government. This, she argued, will only add to the hardships faced by Sierra Leoneans, particularly those already struggling with rising living costs.

“In the face of all these challenges, it is clear that the current administration is out of touch with the realities on the ground,” she concluded. “The people of Sierra Leone are suffering, and their cries are being ignored by a government that prioritizes propaganda over tangible solutions.”

Hon. Conteh concluded that the current administration, under President Bio, is out of touch with the struggles of Sierra Leoneans and is failing to address the country’s economic and agricultural challenges.
