The leadership of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All Peoples Congress (APC), has announced that it will hold a crucial meeting with a high-level joint delegation of international guarantors on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
The meeting will take place at the APC Party Headquarters in Freetown at 12:50 pm.
The delegation, led by Her Excellency Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, former Vice President of The Gambia, will include representatives from key international organizations such as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU), the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), and the Commonwealth.
This visit underscores the ongoing efforts of international stakeholders to foster dialogue and ensure political stability in Sierra Leone. In a formal letter, the APC leadership has requested police presence at their party headquarters starting at 10:00 am on the day of the meeting.
The request seeks to ensure the security of the delegation, underscoring the importance of a peaceful and orderly environment during the high-level engagement.
This meeting comes at a critical time as the country continues to navigate political tensions and the pursuit of national reconciliation following the general elections earlier this year.
The discussions are expected to address key political issues and provide a platform for ongoing dialogue between the APC and the government, with the involvement of the international community serving as a neutral guarantor of peace.
Further details on the agenda of the meeting have yet to be disclosed. However, the presence of such a distinguished delegation indicates the significance of the discussions in shaping the future of Sierra Leone’s political landscape.
