In a recent interview, Alhaji Alpha Kanu, the Presidential Spokesman for Sierra Leone, strongly denied allegations linking President Julius Maada Bio to Jos Leijdekkers, a suspected drug trafficker.

The controversy arose following reports that Leijdekkers, a foreign national, was seen near President Bio during a recent public church event.

Kanu, addressing the matter, emphasized that Sierra Leone is a country that values religious freedom. He pointed out that individuals, irrespective of their background, are welcome to attend public religious gatherings. “The video circulating showing the alleged drug dealer near President Bio does not provide any conclusive evidence of a connection,” Kanu stated.

The Presidential Spokesman also highlighted President Bio’s ongoing efforts to rebrand Sierra Leone’s image on the global stage, stressing that such incidents should not overshadow the country’s progress.

“We remain committed to transparency and upholding the rule of law in all matters,” Kanu added, reiterating the government’s stance on maintaining accountability and cooperation with relevant authorities.

Kanu assured the public that investigations into the matter are ongoing and that the government remains fully committed to a transparent and independent process.
