Agnes Pratt, the very first female Sierra Leonean journalist based in the United Kingdom to introduce Facebook live to multicultural London where she got the nickname Queen of Social Media on Friday 24th July 2020 celebrated her 20th anniversary in journalism by feeding/serving lunch to over 200 beggars in the Eastern part of Freetown, Sierra Leone.
The Project Coordinator for Agnes Pratt, Mr. Osman Daboh disclosed on behalf of the proactive journalist that Agnes Pratt hails from a very humble home/background and believes in helping the poor and less-privileged, one of the reasons she is celebrating her 20th year in journalism with the poor.
He further stated that the London-based journalist is also promoting education for girls among other charity work she is engaged in underscoring that in spite of the harsh economic situation in the country and the global coronavirus pandemic she is thanking God Almighty and celebrating with the less-fortunate for practicing journalism for 20 years.
Giving a background of Agnes Pratt he disclosed, “as a young girl, she was always interested in journalism even as early as her primary school days at Christ Church Primary School, Pademba Road , Freetown Sierra Leone. At the time, the head teacher, Mrs. Yambasu selected any pupil to read newspapers during morning devotions every day in addition to encouraging them to listen to the news and tell the school about the latest developments. In Secondary Schools/University, Government Technical/Rokel, Milton Margai College of Education and Technology, University of Sierra Leone, Agnes Pratt conducted assembly through the Scripture Union and was a member of the Girls Brigade as well as the Literary and Debating Society (L&DS).”
Mr. Daboh also noted that all of these institutions trained Agnes Pratt to become a public speaker and boosted her confidence to engage and effectively communicate with people.
Agnes Pratt is one of the most influential Sierra Leonean journalists in the United Kingdom who is always there to break the news and give support to the Sierra Leonean community in the United Kingdom.
All the beneficiaries of the feeding programme, including Isatu Foday, expressed immense thanks and appreciation to Agnes Pratt, prayed that God Almighty help her to excel in the field of journalism and appealed to other journalists and well-wishers to emulate her sterling example to serve mankind, especially the poor.
