Prominent All People’s Congress (APC) member, Ady Macauley, has strongly criticized the recent suspension of the party by the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) and the remand of the party’s Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya, describing the developments as a threat to democracy.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Macauley characterized the events as “a dark and grievous chapter” for both the APC and the country’s democratic system. He alleged that a “dangerous line was crossed” with the suspension of the party and the detention of its senior official on what he described as politically motivated charges.

“The Rubicon has been crossed, and the fragile levees safeguarding our democracy have collapsed under the weight of unguarded authority,” Macauley stated, expressing concern over what he termed the erosion of lawful governance and accountability.

The APC Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya, was recently remanded in custody following charges relating to alleged incitement and other offences. His remand, alongside the reported suspension of the party by the PPRC, has generated political debate and public attention.

Macauley further called for what he described as courageous and principled leadership to address what he views as a grave injustice. He urged party supporters to remain steadfast, declaring that the party’s “journey to victory begins here.”

The developments come amid heightened political tensions, with observers closely monitoring their implications for democratic governance and political expression in Sierra Leone.
