Freetown Mayor, Irish Ambassador Storm Dumpsite

Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr on Thursday 10 June 2020, morning visited the Kingtom dumpsite with the Irish Ambassador, H.E. Lesley Ní Bhriain, the FCC ESO and other sanitation team members to review and discuss urgent interventions required to improve operational effectiveness and environmental safety at the site. Considerable work has been done in past few months including demarcating the dumpsite into 7 operational blocks, digging a drainage channel, widening vehicle access and the ongoing construction of an office and a weighbridge.

But as the rainy season has started we urgently need a “mini transfer station” with a concrete ramp for those tricycle groups that operate within the Kingtom dumpsite area and for which the other 6 transfer stations are too far to access. We are grateful for the support of development partners that join us to collectively solve some of the problems Freetown faces.

We are excited that as 70% of Freetonians pay property rates for the first time this year with the introduction of the property rate reforms, our city will be better placed to address more of our problems from own source revenue. #PleasePayYourPropertyRates #TransformFreetown
