President Julius Maada Bio has on Monday 1st March 2021 received the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines donated by the Peoples Republic of China. The vaccines arrived in the country from China on Thursday 25th February 2021 with a consignment of 200,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines to support the vaccination campaign against the Corona virus in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leoneans, at home and abroad, have expressed excitement over the donation but many of them have called on President Julius Maada Bio, his wife and family as well as his cabinet to be the first to take the vaccines.

This they said will be a morale booster to ordinary Sierra Leoneans to voluntarily take the jab.  “With President Bio taking the first dose, every other citizen will toe the line,” a political analyst asserted.

On Monday 1st March 2021, the Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President together with their spouses received the first doses of the vaccine live on TV so as to encourage Ghanaians to take the vaccines.

Political analysts in Sierra Leone are also calling on President Bio and his cabinet to follow the sterling example of the Ghanaian President and other world leaders who were the first to be administered with the vaccine as example to their citizens.
