SALCAB Board Chairman Fulfils Promise To Teachers In Manjoro
The Board Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cable Limited (SALCAB), Sorie Fofana has fulfilled a promise he made four months ago to pay ten teachers in Manjoro who are not on the government payroll.
Mr. Fofana’s pledge was made in August during a descendant meeting where it was learned that despite Manjoro schools having a huge number of pupils from neighboring villages, ten teachers are without PIN Codes and they have been volunteering for years only on stipends from the town people.
It was then Mr. Fofana promised that each of the ten teachers both from the Bombali District Educational Council Primary School and the Ansarul Islamic School will receive the sum of Le500,000 monthly; a payment that commenced from September to December 2020.
Motivating the teachers, Mr. Fofana commended them for being nationalistic by volunteering to be ambassadors of the Free Quality Education program; an initiative of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.
”The best way we would ensure that our kids especially from Biriwa Chiefdom benefit from the Free Quality Education program is to motivate teachers.
”Hundreds of kids from riverine towns in Manjoro cross every morning to attend school here and it is wise for us to consider their plight while the Government is thinking of approving teachers”, he said.
Answering the call of Mr. Fofana for descendants from Manjoro to come onboard, other descendants have volunteered to continue Mr. Fofana’s scheme in 2021 while appealing to the Government to speedily approve those teachers.
The recent visit made by the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Schools to Manjoro, David Sengeh, left him overwhelmed and promised to approve Manjoro as an examination center.
