Njala University, 2nd October 2020— Three Academics in the persons of Dr. Abdul Rahman Sesay, Dean, Postgraduate School, Dr Mohamed Alieu Bah, Dean, School of Agriculture and Food Science, and Dr. Julius Olufemi Olapade, Dean, Natural Resources Management have all been promoted to the positions of Associate Professor positions.
They were promoted by the Appointment and Promotions Committee, a sub committee of the University Court, earlier on Friday 2nd October 2020 at the University Secretariat.
The decision of the Appointment Committe was based on a report from External Assessors mainly from Nigeria and other countries in the sub region.
Dr. Abdul Rahman Sesay has served Njala University for more than a decade as Senior Lecturer, Head of Department, and twice as Dean of the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences. Professor Sesay was quite recently appointed Dean of the School of Postgraduate in August 2020. He has contributed immensely to teaching and research.
Dr. Julius Olufemi Olapade is the Dean of the University’s newest School— School of Natural Resources Management.
Professor Olapade is known for contributing immensely to the development of the Fisheries and Aquaculture sector in Sierra Leone, attracting huge private sector support to Njala University with the ongoing construction of a one million dollar modern fish processing and breeding facility, the first in West Africa.
Professor Alieu Mohamed Bah is the Dean for the University’s premier School— the School of Agriculture and Food Science. Professor Bah has a number of publications in his favour and has also served as Project-lead and consultant for several Agricultural projects.
Professor Bah is also a veteran journalist and a Senior member of the revered Academic Staff Association of Njala University, currently serving in the Governing Council of the ASA. He was President of the Association for some considerable number of years.
The Appointment and Promotions Committee has also approved many other academics for Associate Professor position subject to external assessment and others as Lecturer 1 and 2 respectively.
These approvals by the committee subject to the final approval of the University’s highest decision making body- the University Court.
Njala University is rich in human resource and it has continued to provide Vice Chancellors and other Administrators in most the higher educational institutions in Sierra Leone.
This rich human resource has over the years supported the Government of Sierra Leone, the Private sector and other International organizations and Academic institutions in research, project development and management in critical sectors of the economy such as Health, Agriculture, Energy.
