The All Peoples Congress Party (APC), through its 2026 Census Technical Committee, on Saturday, 17th October 2026, launched a census awareness campaign in East Urban District, Freetown, as part of efforts to mobilise party members, supporters, and communities for active participation in the forthcoming national population and housing census.

The campaign brought together East Urban District executive members, constituency executive members from the district’s 11 constituencies, grassroots representatives, APC supporters, and other party stakeholders, demonstrating the party’s use of its organisational structures to promote census awareness.
Addressing the gathering, Committee Chairman Leonard Balogun Koroma underscored the importance of the national census to Sierra Leone’s development planning and electoral administration. He urged APC members and supporters to take the exercise seriously, make themselves available to be counted, and encourage other residents to participate.

He explained that accurate population data are essential for effective national planning, particularly in determining the provision of public services such as schools, hospitals, and other development infrastructure.
The Committee Chairman also encouraged APC members to help identify communities and areas that might not be visited by census officials and report such concerns through the party’s established communication and reporting channels at ward, constituency, district, regional, and national levels.
He further called on development partners to support and monitor the census process to promote transparency and credibility. He also urged the government to address funding challenges and intensify public education to ensure that communities across the country are adequately informed.
The East Urban District Chairman Desmond Korombo Kargbo reaffirmed his executive’s commitment to supporting the APC Census Technical Committee in extending census awareness to communities throughout the district.
Chairman Korombo pledged to work closely with constituency executives, ward leaders, and other grassroots structures to encourage widespread participation. He also announced plans to establish committees and task forces to coordinate sensitisation activities, mobilise residents, and monitor the census exercise across the district.

In a related development, Chairman Balogun Koroma congratulated the newly elected constituency chairmen and district executive members. He also commended Chairman Korombo for his stated commitment to peace, reconciliation, and unity within the party, stressing the importance of cooperation among party structures in achieving shared objectives.
