Thirty-eight Sierra Leonean students have been awarded Russian Olympiad Scholarships to pursue fully funded Master’s degree programmes of their choice in Russia, marking a significant development in efforts to expand access to international postgraduate education.

The scholarship opportunity follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the University of Sierra Leone and Southern Federal University (SFEDU), establishing an academic partnership aimed at creating further educational opportunities for Sierra Leonean students.

Dr. James Mohammad Mallah pioneered the institutional partnership and played a key role in facilitating collaboration between the two universities, helping establish a pathway for students to access postgraduate education in Russia.

All 38 beneficiaries secured the scholarships through a competitive examination organised by the University of Sierra Leone. Their selection reflects their academic abilities and determination to advance their education through the international scholarship programme.

The partnership has also been recognised as an important step towards strengthening academic cooperation between Sierra Leonean and Russian institutions, while providing students with opportunities to pursue advanced studies in their chosen fields.

Appreciation has been extended to the leadership of both Southern Federal University and the University of Sierra Leone for their commitment to promoting international academic collaboration and expanding educational opportunities.

Dr. Mallah has also received special recognition for his role in initiating the partnership and facilitating the collaboration that made the scholarship opportunity possible.

The 38 beneficiaries have been congratulated on their achievement and encouraged to uphold the values of excellence, integrity and discipline while representing Sierra Leone during their studies in Russia.

Their academic journey is expected to provide them with opportunities to acquire advanced knowledge and skills that could contribute to their personal development and the country’s future growth.
