Former Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Commissioner and Leading Presidential Aspirant of the APC, Ady Macauley has spoken out following the arrest of former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK), expressing support for his friend, senior colleague and fellow aspirant.

In a statement, Macauley said he respected the judiciary and the authority of the courts but maintained that Kamara had consistently conducted himself with dignity before the courts.

“I have the utmost respect for our judiciary and the authority of the Court, but my friend, senior colleague and fellow aspirant Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has always conducted himself with dignity before the courts,” he stated.

Macauley said he stood with Kamara as he navigated what he described as a difficult moment, while emphasising the importance of fairness and due process.

“Justice must be balanced and never heavy-handed — due process must be allowed to unfold,” he added.

Kamara was detained at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road, Freetown, on a contempt charge following an exchange with Chief Justice Komba Kamanda during Supreme Court proceedings on the Constitution of Sierra Leone (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

The Chief Justice had directed Kamara to retract his remarks and apologise, but rejected his subsequent response, ruling that it lacked sincerity and remorse before ordering his detention.

Macauley’s statement adds to the public reactions following Kamara’s detention, with the former ACC commissioner calling for justice to be balanced and due process to be respected.
