IMATT College Appoints Joel Deen-Tarawally as Head of Law Department

IMATT College has appointed legal practitioner and Anti-Corruption Prosecutor Joel Tejan Deen-Tarawally Esq. as the new Head of its Department of Law, effective October 1, 2026.

The appointment was announced by the Board and Management of IMATT College, which said Deen-Tarawally brings extensive legal, academic and professional experience to the position.

Deen-Tarawally has 13 years of experience as a legal practitioner and has served as an Anti-Corruption Prosecutor. He has also lectured at IMATT College for nearly four years, teaching courses including Human Rights Law, Media and Telecommunications Law and, more recently, Criminal Law.

Before joining IMATT College, he lectured Contract Law at the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM), alongside the late Justice Ivan Sesay JA.

He holds an LL.M, BL, LL.B and B.A. degrees and has authored numerous academic articles covering areas including corruption, human rights, access to justice and other national issues.

His professional career has also included serving as a Human Rights Advocate and Defence Lawyer at the Legal Aid Board, where he represented indigent persons and children in conflict with the law. He also previously served as Head of Compliance and Credit Control at United Bank for Africa.

The College also noted that Deen-Tarawally was recently recognised among the recipients of the 100 Most Impactful Sierra Leonean Leaders Award.

According to IMATT College, his appointment is expected to further strengthen the Department of Law through his legal experience, academic contributions and commitment to legal scholarship.

The College congratulated Deen-Tarawally on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute to the department’s objectives in his new role.
