Tonkolili District Deputy Opposition Leader in Parliament, Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma, has donated essential school materials to more than 500 pupils across Constituency 048 in Tonkolili District, as part of efforts to support vulnerable families and promote access to education.

The donation, valued at approximately NLe100,000, included school bags, customised exercise books and pens for pupils from more than 80 rural communities and villages within the constituency.

A total of 4,000 exercise books were distributed, with each of the 500 beneficiaries receiving a school bag and two pens to support their basic learning needs as schools resume.

Presenting the materials, Hon. Koroma said the initiative was motivated by concerns over the economic difficulties facing many parents and guardians who struggle to provide essential school supplies for their children.

He stressed that education remains a critical foundation for individual development and national progress, adding that no child should be disadvantaged in the classroom because their family cannot afford basic learning materials.

Koroma said that, as a representative of the people, he considers it important to serve as a role model for young people in his constituency and encourage them to remain committed to their education.

Reflecting on his own humble background, he urged the pupils to remain focused, disciplined and determined, emphasizing that difficult circumstances should not prevent them from pursuing their ambitions.

He also warned the pupils about the dangers of drug abuse, particularly its potential impact on their health, education, future careers and overall wellbeing.

Koroma encouraged the children to stay away from drugs and other negative influences, urging them to make education a priority and use their time and talents productively.

He further assured pupils, parents and communities of his continued commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving education and the welfare of young people in Constituency 048 and beyond.

The donation comes at the beginning of the school year, when many families face increased financial pressure, providing support to pupils in rural communities struggling to meet the cost of basic educational materials.
