President Julius Maada Bio has welcomed former President Ernest Bai Koroma to State House for a meeting focused on national unity, peace and political reconciliation.

The meeting, held on Monday, brought together the sitting President and his predecessor in a notable display of political dialogue and engagement.

Following the meeting, President Bio called on Sierra Leoneans to put aside divisions and work collectively towards the country’s development.

“Let us unite in purpose, reinforce our peace, and commit to building a stronger, more prosperous, and hopeful Sierra Leone,” President Bio stated.

The engagement comes amid continued efforts to strengthen democratic institutions, promote political tolerance and preserve peace and stability in Sierra Leone.

The meeting between President Bio and former President Koroma is also significant given the political differences that have characterised the country’s recent political landscape.
