Solicitor-General Osman Kanu, Esq., has been appointed Chairman of a five-member Caretaker Body established to oversee the affairs of the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) following the official handover of power by outgoing President Tuma Jabbie.

The Caretaker Body was formally nominated and adopted during a meeting held on Thursday, 6 August 2026, following the transition of leadership from the outgoing executive.

The newly constituted interim leadership comprises prominent members of the legal profession, including Hon. Gaveo, Esq.; J. E. Kapuwa, Esq.; Menisa Sesay, Esq.; and L. M. Bayoh, Esq., alongside Osman Kanu, Esq.

The nominations, which were moved by K. Sandi, Esq., received unanimous approval from members present at the meeting.

Following the adoption, Osman Kanu was elected to serve as Chairman of the Caretaker Body, with the responsibility of guiding the Association during the transition period.

The interim body has been mandated to manage the operations of the SLBA, promote stability within the organisation, address outstanding concerns, and prepare the way for a new Annual General Meeting (AGM) and credible executive elections.

The formation of the Caretaker Body comes after a period of internal disagreements within the Association, including disputes surrounding the 2024 SLBA elections and subsequent concerns over membership issues and governance processes.

The new leadership is expected to restore confidence among members and help strengthen the governance structures of Sierra Leone’s premier legal association ahead of the next electoral process.
