Sierra Leone’s Parliament has approved the appointment of Chernor Mamoud Jalloh as the Director General of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), paving the way for him to officially assume leadership of the country’s pension and social security institution.

The approval followed the consideration of a report by the Committee on Appointments and the Public Service after Mr. Jalloh appeared before Members of Parliament to present his vision for strengthening the institution. During the engagement, he reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, improved service delivery, and reforms aimed at enhancing NASSIT’s efficiency and sustainability.

Mr. Jalloh’s appointment forms part of President Julius Maada Bio’s recent changes to the leadership of key public institutions. He succeeds Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, who previously served as Director General.

As the new head of NASSIT, Mr. Jalloh is expected to provide strategic leadership in safeguarding workers’ pension contributions, expanding social security coverage, and strengthening public confidence in the Trust. Stakeholders have expressed optimism that his tenure will focus on institutional reforms, prudent investment management, and improved welfare for pensioners and contributors across Sierra Leone.

The parliamentary approval marks the beginning of a new chapter for NASSIT as the institution continues to play a critical role in promoting social protection and economic security for workers across the country.
