Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Moyamba District have declared solidarity with the nationwide fuel protest spearheaded by the Native Consortium, calling on activists and citizens to wear black as a symbol of resistance and mourning over the rising economic hardship linked to fuel prices.

In a press statement issued on 29th June 2026 under the banner of the National Civil Society Forum in Moyamba, the organisations said they remain dissatisfied with the government’s recent reduction in fuel pump prices, describing it as insufficient despite what they claimed to be a 40 percent drop in global fuel prices.

The CSOs noted that although government announced a price cut ranging between 5 and 12 percent, they would not be distracted by the adjustment, insisting that a further reduction is necessary to ease the burden on citizens.

According to the statement, the symbolic action of wearing black, scheduled for Tuesday, 30th June 2026, is intended to amplify the voices of ordinary Sierra Leoneans and send a strong message to authorities that urgent intervention is needed.

The organisations described the protest as a peaceful and non-partisan demonstration aimed at demanding accountability and prioritisation of citizens’ welfare amid growing economic challenges.

They emphasised that the action represents unity, resistance, and mourning for the hardship many families continue to face as a result of fuel price increases.

Moyamba CSOs also reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement with the government, while calling on community leaders, institutions, and the general public to support the symbolic protest in pursuit of what they described as a fairer and more just society.
