Musa Idriss Kanu has officially assumed office as Chairman of the Port Loko District Council following his swearing-in ceremony held at the Council Conference Hall.

The ceremony was conducted by the Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Tamba Lamina, and marked the formal transition of leadership after the passing of former Council Chairman, Sheku Tejan Saccoh.

Kanu, who previously served as Deputy Chairman and Councilor, took the oath of office in line with the provisions of Sierra Leone’s local government laws, ensuring continuity in the administration of the district council.

The event attracted government officials, council staff, political stakeholders, traditional leaders, community representatives, and supporters from across the district. Among those present were members of the council administration led by Chief Administrator Arthur Allieu, as well as representatives of the All People’s Congress (APC) and various community groups.

In his maiden address as Chairman, Kanu paid tribute to the late Sheku Tejan Saccoh and pledged to build on the developmental initiatives championed during his predecessor’s tenure. He reaffirmed his commitment to improving service delivery, promoting inclusive governance, and accelerating development across Port Loko District.

He stressed the importance of collaboration among local authorities, development partners, community leaders, and residents in addressing the district’s challenges and advancing its development priorities.

Kanu also assured residents that his administration would remain accessible and responsive to the needs of the people, emphasizing that progress can only be achieved through collective effort and active citizen participation.

The new Chairman called for unity and support from all stakeholders as he begins his tenure, expressing confidence that through cooperation and shared commitment, the district can continue on a path of sustainable growth and development.

The swearing-in ceremony marked a new chapter for the Port Loko District Council, with stakeholders expressing optimism that the transition will ensure stability and continuity in local governance following the loss of the late Chairman Saccoh.
