The Chief Executive Officer of OWL PRESS, Dauda Musa Bangura, has joined local and international observers in Addis Ababa to monitor Ethiopia’s 7th General Election, a major democratic exercise that saw millions of citizens participate across the country.

More than 50 million registered voters were eligible to take part in the election, which will determine the composition of the national parliament and the formation of the country’s next government.

Preliminary projections and political assessments have suggested strong support for the ruling Prosperity Party of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, although official results are yet to be declared by the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia.

Speaking from Addis Ababa, Bangura described the electoral process as a significant moment in Ethiopia’s democratic development, noting the large turnout despite reported security and logistical challenges in some regions.

“Witnessing Ethiopia’s 7th General Election is a remarkable experience. It demonstrates the importance of citizen participation in shaping the future of a nation. Millions of Ethiopians have come out to make their voices heard through the ballot box,” he said.

He commended election officials, security personnel, and polling staff for their efforts to ensure a generally peaceful voting process in most parts of the country.

Bangura also emphasized that credible elections remain essential for strengthening democratic governance, accountability, and national development across Africa.

The election attracted widespread attention from regional and international observer missions, including teams from the African Union (AU), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and other accredited groups deployed across various regions to monitor proceedings.

While voting was largely peaceful in many areas, electoral authorities reported disruptions in some polling stations due to security concerns, particularly in parts of the Oromia and Amhara regions. Despite these challenges, most polling centers operated throughout election day.

Ethiopia’s 7th General Election comes amid ongoing national efforts to consolidate peace and political stability following years of conflict in several regions. Analysts have described the vote as a key test for the country’s democratic institutions.

The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia is expected to announce official results in the coming days.
