Sidie Mohamed Tunis has further demonstrated his commitment to higher education and student development after officially unveiling the newly constructed Political Science Garden at the Department of Political Science, Fourah Bay College, and donating US$10,000 to support the department’s academic needs and student welfare programmes.
The unveiling ceremony, held on Thursday, 21st May 2026, brought together lecturers, students, college administrators, and invited guests who gathered to witness what many described as another significant contribution by Dr. Tunis to the growth and development of Fourah Bay College.

Serving as the Grand Chief Unveiler, Dr. Tunis stated that he personally funded the Political Science Garden project as part of his continued efforts to support academic excellence and create conducive learning spaces for students.
“I funded this project and it was unveiled today. I also donated $10,000 to the Political Science Department after the Head of Department complained about the lack of computers and printers. The money will be used to purchase computers and printers for the department,” he said.
The newly unveiled Political Science Garden is expected to serve as a space for outdoor lectures, academic reflection, intellectual discussions, and student engagement activities within the department.

In addition to financing the construction of the Garden, Dr. Tunis also disbursed an extra US$10,000 to the department to enhance facilities within the space and support student-focused initiatives. Department authorities disclosed that the funds would be used for the procurement of computers and printers, as well as the installation of seating areas, landscaping, shaded study spaces, and other welfare-related improvements.
Lecturers and students praised Dr. Tunis for what they described as his unwavering support to Fourah Bay College over the years, noting that his contributions have continued to impact both infrastructure and student empowerment.
Before funding the Political Science Garden project, Dr. Tunis had reportedly supported several major developments at the institution, including the electrification of the campus, rehabilitation works, construction of the campus gate, and the provision of scholarships to students.

Widely recognised for his contributions to governance, diplomacy, and regional integration, Dr. Tunis used the occasion to encourage students to embrace political science as an important tool for democratic development and national progress.
Following the unveiling, he toured the facility and interacted with students, engaging them in discussions on leadership, governance, and the role of young people in shaping Sierra Leone’s future.

The ceremony ended with a vote of thanks and group photographs at the newly commissioned Political Science Garden, as students and faculty members expressed appreciation for Dr. Tunis’ continued investment in education and youth development.
