People’s Choice Technology & Innovation Hub Hosts Women in Tech Academy Event in Freetown

The People’s Choice Technology & Innovation Hub has successfully hosted its Women in Tech Academy event in celebration of World Creativity & Innovation Day 2026 at the Africell American Corner on Bathurst Street, Freetown.

The event brought together aspiring women and girls in technology, innovators, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders for a day of learning, mentorship, and engagement.

The programme opened at 10:00 a.m. with a welcome address from the Hub’s management team, emphasising the importance of nurturing creativity, innovation, and leadership among women in technology. Participants engaged in panel discussions and interactive workshops aimed at enhancing skills, expanding knowledge, and inspiring action.

The keynote address was delivered by Mrs. Melissa Faux, Founder and Executive Director of Jemison Academy, on the topic: “Career Guidance and Development: Pathways for Women and Girls in Technology.” She highlighted strategies to improve access to STEM education and opportunities for young women and girls across Sierra Leone.

An expert panel discussion followed, where speakers shared insights on mentorship, innovation, leadership, and visibility in the tech sector, offering practical guidance and inspirational experiences for participants.

The highlight of the event was the Women in Tech Pitch Competition, where emerging innovators presented tech solutions before a panel of judges. Winners were announced as follows:

1st Place: Team Medifind (Innovators)

2nd Place: Team Clicktostart (Digital Leaders)

3rd Place: Team TradeConnectSL (Future Builders)


All participants received certificates of participation, while winners were awarded additional recognition for their innovative contributions.

The event was organised in partnership with the Patriotic Advocacy Network (PAN) Sierra Leone and supported by media partners, ensuring broad visibility and engagement.

Speaking at the event, Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Ishmael Fofanah said the initiative marked a significant milestone in promoting technology, creativity, and innovation among women and girls in Sierra Leone. He reaffirmed the Hub’s commitment to empowering youth, fostering digital skills, and nurturing entrepreneurial talent.
