Ramsy Medical Laboratory has launched a nationwide hepatitis B screening and vaccination campaign targeting staff of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), in a move aimed at strengthening workplace health and disease prevention.

The exercise officially began on Monday, 20 April 2026, at NASSIT’s headquarters on Walpole Street in Freetown, where staff members participated in the initial phase of the programme.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote a healthier workforce within the institution, with officials stressing the importance of preventive healthcare in sustaining productivity and service delivery.

Speaking at the launch, Director General of NASSIT, Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, underscored the link between staff wellbeing and institutional performance. He noted that maintaining a healthy workforce is essential for the Trust to effectively fulfil its mandate of providing social security services nationwide.

Daboh emphasized that prevention and early detection remain key tools in managing health risks, adding that the programme reflects management’s commitment to safeguarding both employees and the institution.

He encouraged all staff to take full advantage of the exercise, describing it as a vital investment in both personal and organisational wellbeing.

From the medical side, Dr Jacob Mansaray of Ramsy Medical Laboratory said the initiative aligns with national public health efforts to reduce hepatitis B prevalence in Sierra Leone from 13.8 percent to below 5 percent by 2030. He described workplace health interventions as an important component of that broader goal.

Dr Mansaray also highlighted Ramsy Medical Laboratory’s long-standing presence in Sierra Leone’s healthcare sector, noting over three decades of experience in clinical diagnostics.

The programme includes hepatitis B screening using rapid test kits, vaccination for staff who test negative to ensure long-term protection, and counselling sessions designed to help participants understand their results and receive guidance on liver health management.
