The leadership, senior management, and staff of the Ministry of Finance presented a token of appreciation to the Honorable Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, on Monday, 16 March 2026, in recognition of his recent continental accolade.
Minister Bangura was named Africa Government Minister of 2025 by the African Leadership Magazine during the 15th edition of the ALM Persons of the Year (POTY) Awards, held on 27 February 2026 in Accra, Ghana.

Presenting the appreciation plaque, Financial Secretary Matthew Dingie congratulated the Minister, describing the award as a testament to his visionary leadership. He emphasized that the presentation was intended to associate the Ministry’s staff with the achievement and to express gratitude for Minister Bangura’s guidance in advancing Sierra Leone’s economic management.

Responding to the tribute, Minister Bangura noted that the recognition belongs to all staff of the Ministry and the wider Government of Sierra Leone. He highlighted that the award reflects the collective efforts of the Ministry in supporting his leadership to achieve economic stability and sustainable growth.

The ALM Persons of the Year Awards are Africa’s premier public-choice recognition platform, celebrating leaders whose vision, courage, and transformative actions drive development across the continent. Minister Bangura emerged as the African Government Minister of the Year 2025, receiving 31.42 percent of total votes.

The poll drew robust participation from across Africa and beyond, highlighting widespread acknowledgment of Minister Bangura’s contributions to strengthening economic governance, implementing key fiscal and institutional reforms, and promoting financial stability and sustainable development in Sierra Leone.
