In a decisive move to uphold academic integrity and student welfare, the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University, Professor Aiah Lebbie, has issued a formal directive ending the practice of appointing Class Representatives. The announcement was made during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Senate on October 24, 2025.

Professor Lebbie stated that, effective immediately, lecturers are forbidden from appointing students as Class Representatives or delegating any of their duties to them. He further charged Deans with the responsibility of monitoring compliance across all colleges and faculties.

“Effective immediately, the practice of appointing Class Representatives is hereby discontinued,” Professor Lebbie emphasized. “On no account are lecturers to appoint Class Representatives or delegate any formal functions to them.”

The policy directive follows serious complaints and reports of misconduct by some Class Representatives across all campuses. Alleged behaviors included extortion, corruption, intimidation, and exploitation of fellow students.

To maintain the University’s core values of transparency, fairness, and academic integrity, management has resolved to prohibit the appointment of Class Representatives with immediate effect. Lecturers and faculty members have been officially instructed to comply fully with this directive.
