Sierra Leone has been ranked the world’s most worried nation, according to Gallup’s 2024 Global Emotions Report.

The survey found that 67% of Sierra Leoneans reported feeling worried for most of the previous day, the highest rate globally. Neighboring Guinea ranked second.

Experts attribute the high levels of worry to economic hardship, inflation, and limited access to essential services. Despite improvements in governance and health, these challenges continue to affect the daily lives of Sierra Leoneans.

The Gallup report also highlighted that several countries reporting the highest levels of negative emotions and experiences were fragile or conflict-affected states.

In Sierra Leone, experiences of daily physical pain were among the highest in the world, leading the country to be ranked as one of the most distressed globally.
