Menissa Sesay Elected President of L.A.W.Y.E.R.S. for 2025–2027 Term

Menissa Sesay has been elected as the new Chairperson and President of L.A.W.Y.E.R.S. (Lawyers Advocating for Women and Youth Empowerment and Rights in Society), serving a two-year term from 2025 to 2027.

The election of the new executive was announced following the organization’s recent internal selection process.

The full 2025–2027 Executive Committee is as follows:

L.A.W.Y.E.R.S., founded on February 14, 1997, is a female-led legal organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of women and girls in Sierra Leone. The organization provides free legal advice and court representation to vulnerable women and girls on issues such as matrimonial disputes, maintenance, sexual and domestic violence.

Over the years, L.A.W.Y.E.R.S. has actively contributed to legal reforms, including the Child’s Rights Act (2007), Domestic Violence Act (2007), and Sexual Offences Act (2012). The organization has also supported Sierra Leone’s Constitutional Review Process and continues to advocate for the establishment of a Forensic Analysis Crime Detection Agency (FACDA) to strengthen crime detection and prevention.

In addition to legal advocacy, L.A.W.Y.E.R.S. has played a key role in public awareness campaigns, including the First Lady’s campaign to end child marriage, as well as health and social initiatives during the Ebola crisis, providing education, support, and humanitarian aid to affected communities.

With Menissa Sesay at the helm, L.A.W.Y.E.R.S. is poised to continue its mission of empowering women and girls, advocating for legal reform, and ensuring justice and equality across Sierra Leone.
