Member of the All-People’s Congress (APC) Communications Team, Minkailu Koroma, has voiced strong concerns over recent government appointments, specifically the selection of four members of the Antar family as presidential envoys.

Koroma questioned whether these appointments genuinely serve the national interest, warning that such decisions could create perceptions of favoritism and nepotism. He further suggested that granting diplomatic privileges to individuals with close family ties to the administration may allow them to leverage these positions for personal business gains.

“The appointment of these four individuals risks turning public office into a tool for private enrichment,” Koroma stated. “Diplomatic positions should serve the country, not advance personal or family interests.”

Political analysts have weighed in, noting that while the Constitution gives the President the authority to appoint envoys, opposition parties often scrutinize such selections to ensure transparency, accountability, and merit-based representation.

Koroma’s remarks have reignited debates on the balance between national representation and fairness in government appointments, raising questions about how public trust can be maintained while selecting individuals for high-profile diplomatic roles.

The issue underscores ongoing calls from civil society and political stakeholders for greater oversight in appointments that carry both national and international responsibilities.
