As part of efforts to achieve his flagship goal of digital transformation at the University of Sierra Leone (USL), Professor Aiah Lebbie, Vice Chancellor and Principal, has spearheaded major improvements in campus connectivity and security infrastructure at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), Kossoh Town.
A team from the university’s Communications Directorate visited COMAHS today to assess progress on the installation of fiber optic internet and CCTV surveillance systems, aimed at enhancing student access to digital resources and campus safety.

The project, executed by E.H. Technology Company Ltd., includes the installation of high-speed fiber internet across the library, student hostels, and other parts of the campus. Speaking during the visit, CEO Edward Williams revealed that the initiative was prompted by direct engagement from Professor Lebbie, who sought a sustainable solution to persistent internet challenges faced by students, particularly those residing in the hostels and using the library.
“In just one week, we installed reliable internet coverage across key areas of the campus and deployed AI-powered CCTV cameras capable of facial recognition,” Williams said. “We also established a 24/7 power backup system to ensure uninterrupted service, even during outages.”

This development forms part of Professor Lebbie’s broader digital agenda for the university, which includes digitizing academic records, streamlining management information systems, and maximizing the use of learning management platforms for both students and lecturers.

With these infrastructure upgrades, USL is moving closer to becoming a modern, digitally empowered academic institution.
