The Opposition Chief Whip in Sierra Leone’s Parliament, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, was involved in a road accident on Wednesday afternoon near the Masiaka Tollgate.

The incident occurred just a few minutes after he departed from a press conference held on the ongoing national census and constituency boundary delimitation.

Hon. Kamara had attended the press briefing where he voiced strong opposition to the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system. During the conference, he presented salient points challenging the limitations posed by the current constituency boundaries and questioned the government’s shift from the constituency-based system to the PR system.

Shortly after leaving the venue to attend to matters in his constituency, his vehicle was involved in an accident a few meters before reaching the Masiaka Tollgate. Despite the impact, there were no casualties. Hon. Kamara and all other occupants of the vehicle emerged unharmed.

“It’s a relief to report that everyone is safe,” a source close to the MP confirmed. “Only the vehicle sustained damage, and no one was injured.”

The news of the accident sparked concern among supporters and members of the public, but many have expressed gratitude that no lives were lost.
