The High Court has approved a three-month extension of medical bail for former Finance Minister Patricia Laverley, enabling her to remain abroad for critical treatment as she faces charges linked to an alleged violent altercation with a fellow government official.

Laverley, accused of grievous bodily harm following a November 12, 2024, incident involving Tourism Minister Nabella Tunis, was initially granted bail in late 2023 due to severe health complications. During a hearing at Pademba Road Court No. 2 this week, her legal team confirmed the extension, authorized by Justice Alhaji Momoh Jah Stevens on December 6, 2024.

Defense attorney M. S. Koroma disclosed that Laverley is undergoing specialized cardiac care in Ghana, including a Coronary Angiogram—a diagnostic procedure unavailable in Sierra Leone—at St. Michael’s Specialist Hospital in Lapaz, Accra.

Magistrate Bangura, presiding over the session, adjourned proceedings until May 5, 2025, after state counsel Yusuf Isaac Scsay raised no objections to the request.

The case, prosecuted under Section 20 of Sierra Leone’s Offenses Against the Person Act of 1861, centers on claims that Laverley intentionally caused harm to Tunis during a confrontation.
