In honor of the forthcoming Prince of Wales Secondary School Centenary Celebrations in April 2025, the Old Boys of the Prince of Wales Secondary School, Class of 2008, donated 300 bags of cement, totaling Le50,000, to the Prince of Wales Centenary Committee.

The donation was presented on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Prince of Wales School Compound, Kingtom, Freetown. During the presentation, the Coordinator for the Class of 2008, Samuel Yemeh Koroma, explained that the class saw it fit to contribute 300 bags of cement to support the development work of the Prince of Wales Centenary Committee.

The Senior Prefect of the Class of 2008, Richard Moore Conteh, speaking on behalf of his classmates, stated that this was the second time the class had given back to their alma mater, which played a significant role in shaping who they are today. He added that the donation of 300 bags of cement and Le50,000 was made to support the ongoing construction work at the school and to be part of the Centenary celebrations. The Class of 2008 wanted to contribute in a meaningful way as part of the celebrations, and they hoped that their efforts would inspire other classes to support the school’s development.

He noted, “It is a privilege and honor for the Class of 2008 to donate to the Centenary Committee of the Prince of Wales Secondary School. We hope to leave a legacy and encourage other classes to contribute as well. We want to be remembered in the history of the Centenary celebrations, and we challenge both senior and junior classes to step forward, as no contribution is too small.”

The Centenary Chairman of the Prince of Wales Centenary Committee, Reginald Fynn, received the 300 bags of cement and the Le50,000 donation on behalf of the executive and members of the committee. He welcomed the Class of 2008 and expressed his happiness at seeing young Princewaleans supporting the efforts of the committee. He emphasized the significance of this centenary, marking 100 years of the school’s contributions to Sierra Leone and the world. Fynn acknowledged that this is a moment every Princewalian should be proud of.

He continued, “The opportunity to give back to the school is rare, and we are thrilled that the Class of 2008 has seized this moment to contribute. When the history of the Prince of Wales Secondary School Centenary is written, the Class of 2008 will be remembered for their support. They haven’t made just any donation, but a substantial one—300 bags of cement worth Le50,000. The committee thanks the Class of 2008 for this generous contribution.

“Fynn assured the Class of 2008 that their donation would be put to immediate use in the ongoing construction of the school’s multi-purpose hall.

He encouraged other classes to follow the example set by the Class of 2008, noting that contributions of any size would be greatly appreciated. “Every Princewalian should do something for the school, so when we look back, we can proudly say that we helped build the future of Prince of Wales.”
