In a significant boost to grassroots football, Babadi Kamara, the Executive Chairman of Bo Rangers and a frontrunner in the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) presidential race, has extended remarkable support to the Kono District Football Association (KDFA). Kamara contributed NLe 150,000 and 47 footballs to facilitate the district’s Inter-Chiefdom Football Competition.
The second edition of the tournament commenced on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Koidu Community Playing Field amidst a celebratory atmosphere. Kamara was warmly welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd, alongside district and regional football stakeholders, community leaders, and prominent figures in the sporting world.
Speaking at the event, Kamara reaffirmed his dedication to fostering unity and progress through football. He highlighted the sport’s potential to unite communities and emphasized his broader vision for its development across the country. “My focus has always been on creating opportunities and nurturing talent at all levels. This initiative aligns with my commitment to ensuring every district benefits from the growth of football in Sierra Leone,” Kamara said.
Chairman of the KDFA, Abubakarr Mansaray, expressed profound appreciation for Kamara’s gesture, noting its transformative impact on football in the district. “This competition strengthens unity among our 14 chiefdoms and provides a platform to discover emerging talent. Kamara’s contribution demonstrates his unwavering commitment to the sport,” Mansaray stated.
Echoing similar sentiments, Ibrahim Kuyateh, Acting Vice Chairman of the Eastern Region Football Association, praised Kono’s hospitality and reaffirmed the region’s unanimous backing of Kamara’s bid for the SLFA presidency. Kuyateh described Kamara as a unifying force in Sierra Leonean football, poised to take the sport to new heights.
During his address, Kamara reflected on the deep connection he shares with Kono District, underscoring its importance in his personal and professional journey.
“This support is my way of giving back to a community that has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. My vision is to ensure that every corner of Sierra Leone benefits from improved football infrastructure and opportunities,” he stated.
Kamara also called for greater emphasis on discipline, fair play, and eradicating violence and substance abuse in sports.Paramount Chief PC Soloko commended Kamara for his contributions to the district’s development and extended blessings for his SLFA presidential bid.
