The Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority (SLPTA) has unveiled a new ticketing system for its popular Waka Fine bus service. This immediate implementation aims to address the recent surge in counterfeit tickets that have plagued the system, resulting in substantial revenue losses for the authority.
In an official statement, SLPTA management expressed concern over the issue: “It has come to our notice that some unscrupulous individuals have flooded the market with fake tickets. This illegal activity has not only affected our revenue but has also inconvenienced many of our passengers.”
To facilitate a smooth transition, the SLPTA has announced that both old and new tickets will be accepted on Waka Fine buses until Wednesday, August 7, 2024. However, starting from Thursday, August 8, 2024, only the newly issued tickets will be valid for travel. The authority urges passengers to acquire the new tickets promptly to avoid any inconvenience.
The introduction of the new ticketing system is part of a broader initiative to enhance service delivery and ensure the financial sustainability of public transportation in Sierra Leone. The SLPTA assures passengers that the new tickets incorporate advanced security features to prevent forgery and safeguard the integrity of the ticketing process.
