ECOBANK Sierra Leone Limited Celebrates Mother’s Day at PCMH & Rewards Mothers and Their Newborn Babies

Freetown -May 12, 2024 – Ecobank Sierra Leone on May 12, 2022, visited and celebrated mothers and their newborn babies at PCMH. This was an activity aimed at joining the rest of the world to celebrate Mothers.

Mother’s Day is a Day set aside in honoring motherhood and maternal bonds, as well as the influence of mothers in Society. Mother’s Day is always celebrated on the second Sunday in May. In 2024, it fell on Sunday, May 12th.

Ecobank recognizes the importance of mothers and their role in shaping the lives of children and Society as a whole. Ecobank deems this role as very important and it is aligned with Ecobank’s mission to contribute to the economic development and regional integration of Africa.

This Mother’s Day Ecobank Bank randomly rewarded the first five women who had babies at PCMH with assorted items, baby washing bowl bathtub, stool, socks, baby soaps, diapers, bibs, towels, toys, baby care kits etc 

In addition, Ecobank presented each mother with a cheque of Nle 500 as initial deposits for a Junior Saver Account (JSA) for each of the babies and assigned mothers to a relationship officer to support them to open the accounts for their babies.

  • Speaking at the event, on behalf of the Managing Director, Mr. Sebastian Ashong- Katai, The Head of Consumer Banking, Madam Kate Thompson said, investing in our children is very important in setting them up for the right future and the event today will definitely help in achieving that.
  •  She indicated that a child’s journey to Financial Freedom starts with the conscious and intentional desire to invest in our children’s growth and the Ecobank Junior Saver Account (JSA) supports this vision.
  • Ecobank, upholds inclusive financial literacy and hence designed the Ecobank Junior Saver Account to enable children to be financially smart and well-informed about banking and money related issues from an early age.
  • She was very hopeful that this act will encourage mothers throughout Sierra Leone to be proud of who they are, their role in shaping the lives of their children, society and the Country as a whole.
  • She was very grateful to the hospital administration of Princess Christian Maternity Hospital, Fourah Bay Roadfor their support of Ecobank to bring smiles on the face of new mothers, invest in the lives of children and contributing to the success of this event.
  • She concluded by wishing all mothers, a HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY on behalf of the Managing Director, all Executives and Staff of Ecobank.

ECOBANK JUNIOR SAVER ACCOUNT

The Ecobank Junior Saver Account is an account opened in trust for children and teens below 18 years of age.  It is to ensure a brighter future for children and to cultivate and instill in them a positive attitude to saving. It is an account that helps to teach growing child the four main uses of money, that is, savings, spending, donating and investment.

The main features of the account include:

  • A minimum amount of Nle 100.00 is needed to open a Junior Saver Account
  • Competitive interest rates on account
  • No monthly account maintenance fee
  • Restrictions on withdrawals to ensure the money grows.
  • Easy conversion of account to a regular account once child turns 18.
