Thousands of Sierra Leoneans including human rights advocates and fighters of democracy across the United States of America, has on 14th July 2023, assembled in unity at Washington DC to peacefully protest against intimidation, bad governance, rigged elections and for destroying the fabrics of the country’s beautiful democracy by a corrupt elite of the SLPP.

The protest which is themed ‘Save Sierra Leone’s Democracy” is geared towards voicing out the plethora of issues that have been ravaging the country since the Bio led administration took office in 2018.

Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora have organized themselves as the ‘American Political Community: Enduring Rights, Democracy and Freedom in Sierra Leone’. They asserted that this is not about APC or SLPP, rather it’s about fighting for democracy to prevail and save the future of Sierra Leone.

According to our reporters on ground in Washington D.C, thousands of Sierra Leoneans in the last few days have travelled from California, Philadelphia, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and other parts across the United States to team up with the team in D.C to protest and urge the International Community to encourage the government of Sierra Leone to abide by their promise of conducting a “peaceful and credible electoral process”.

Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad have expressed their disappointment and dissatisfaction with the manner on which the ECSL conducted the June 2023 elections. Both national and international elections observers have criticised the outcome of the elections results as they deemed it to be “not credible and lack transparency”
