Head of Commonwealth Observers Engages APC Young Leadership

The former Vice President of the Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Prof Yemi Osinbajo who also happens to lead the Commonwealth election observers to the parliamentary and presidential elections in Sierra Leone, has on Thursday 22nd June 2023, engaged the All Peoples’ Congress (APC) Young Leadership, to discuss key issues surrounding free, fair and transparent elections. The event took place at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel Aberdeen, Freetown.

The engagement with the young leaders of the All Peoples’ Congress (APC), has proven to be a step in the right direction to assure the party, young people and the nation that the June 24 elections will be fair and transparent.

H.E. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo assured the APC young Congress that the International community has taken keen interest in the June 24 elections in Sierra Leone, and they will engage with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that due processes are followed.

He encouraged the Young congress to continue to keep the peace for the development of Sierra Leone.

Prince Tholley, the President of APC Young Congress in his presentation highlighted several issues bordering the credibility of the upcoming General Elections, including the state capture of all democratic institutions by government, the increased constriction of civic space and state sponsored intimidation of members and supporters of the APC Party.

The processes leading to the buildup of the June 24 elections in Sierra Leone has been met with chaos and not entirely transparent – a situation which has led the main opposition party to question the fairness and transparency of the Electoral Commission and its entire leadership.
