VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Job title:                      Village Savings and Loans Officer

Reports to:     CD Supervisor

Supervises:  None

Employer: Gola Rainforest Conservation-LG (GRC-LG)

POSITION PURPOSE

To assist the formation, functioning and development of Village Saving & Loan Associations in the Forest Edge Communities around Gola Rainforest National Park (GRNP) to encourage sustainable livelihood development around GRCLG

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Consult with local communities and organize interested people into VSLA’s
  2. Train the VSLA’s on the necessary topics for being able to run the VSLA in a good way.
  3. Coach the VSLA’s during their functioning, including record keeping, group functioning and potential conflict management
  4. Facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of the VSLA activities / groups
  5. Advise VSLA’s on income generating activities

POSITION REQUIREMENTS (Qualifications, competencies and experience):

Essential criteria

  • A Sierra Leone national
  • At least a Higher Diploma in Community Development Studies / Rural Development.
  • At least two years working experience in above mentioned duties, so very specifically in working with VSLA’s or SILC-groups 
  • Fluent in English, Mende and Krio 
  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to organize local communities into groups and also keep accurate and orderly records of work undertaken
  • Willing to spend most of the time working in remote areas, as the position‘s base is in the local communities

Desirable criteria

  • Good social skills needed for working with local communities and smalle groups with remote communities
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation of implementation of plans
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Cultural, ethnic and gender sensitivity
  • Computer literate
  • A motorcycle driver’s license
  • Willing to spend time working in remote areas
