Ex-pupils of the Prince of Wales School Class of 2002, through the Old Prince Waleans Association (OPWA) have equipped the school library with books and other reading materials worth over $8.000 USD. The presentation of the books was done at the Prince of Wales school grounds at Kingtom in Freetown.
Speaking on behalf of members of the 2002 Class, Nathaniel Sylvanus Charley who is based in Canada, thanked the Prince of Wales school for creating a lucrative platform for them. He added that on behalf of the class of 2002, they have come to give back to the school by boosting the school library with books primarily in the field of accountings, and also in other areas like Arts and Sciences.
He went on to say that the books will be placed in the school library and it will enable pupils to do their school work effectively, as well as prepare them strongly for public examinations.
He highlighted that they as ex-pupils have a moral obligation to give back to the school and make a meaningful contribution to betterment of the school by paying it forward
He further said that it is their moral obligation to support OPWA, and as they are trying to mobilize themselves to create an OPWA chapter in Canada – this won’t be their only positive contribution to the school, as the creation of the OPWA chapter in Canada will pave the way for the Prince of Wales school to become not one of the best schools, but the best school in Sierra Leone.
He concluded by handing over the books to the president of OPWA and the Vice Principal for the senior school.
The President of Old Prince Waleans Association (OPWA) Sulaiman Rahman Kamara, on behalf of the executive and OPWA membership thanked the ex-pupils class of 2002, for their laudable and humanitarian gesture. He added that it is their obligation and responsibility to invest in the future generation by giving them quality and sustainable education.
He acknowledged his heartfelt gratitude to the 2002 class, and affirmed that the pupils will greatly benefit from their kind gesture. He urged pupils to make use of this great opportunity and focus their attention to reading the materials and empower themselves.
Mr. Kingston King, the Vice Principal for the Prince of Wales senior secondary school, received the books on behalf of the school. He acknowledged the kind gesture of OPWA and the class of 2002. He extended his appreciation on behalf of the school board, and affirmed that the books will be utilized positively by the pupils.
He urged other ex-pupils of the school to follow up on the positive footsteps of the 2002 class and OPWA, as only together will the Prince of Wales school transform to higher heights.
