Sierra Leone’s intelligence, military, and police forces have seized a large consignment of bomb-making materials and illegal drugs. This joint operation, launched on July 7, 2024, marks the culmination of months of intensive surveillance and strategic planning.
The Ministry of Information and Civic Education disclosed the details in a public announcement dated July 12, 2024. Intelligence officials had uncovered a plot in early March 2023 involving individuals suspected of importing bomb-making materials into the country. This led to a special operation to identify and thwart their activities.
On July 7, 2024, coordinated raids were carried out at multiple locations in and around the Western Area. These raids resulted in the seizure of various bomb-making materials, including 12.5 kg empty gas cylinders, high-grade TNT (Trinitrotoluene), detonators, firing devices, timers, and other components disguised as powdered laundry detergents and soap.

These dangerous and addictive amphetamine-type stimulants, known for their use by ISIS and fighters in Syria, were concealed in bedroom refrigerators and air-conditioners. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is a staggering $94,155,200.
The following individuals have been arrested and are currently assisting the police with investigations:
